# Boost & Bury

> Rule-based ranking adjustments, globally or per collection.

Boost & Bury rules push products up (boost) or down (bury) within Depict's
sorting. Rules exist at two levels:

* **Global rules** apply to every Depict-managed collection.
* **Collection-specific rules** apply to a single collection that has opted
  in to its own rules.

Every rule has a **strength** — how strongly it boosts or buries.

## Rule types

**Badge rules** target products by state:

* On sale
* Out of stock / partially out of stock / partially low stock
* New in
* Bestseller (by units or revenue)
* Trending (by units or revenue)
* Slow mover
* Few variants available

**Tag rules** target products carrying specific Shopify tags — the app lets
you pick from the tags in your store.

**Collection rules** target products that belong to another collection.

## Defaults

New installations start with two global rules: boost bestsellers and bury
out-of-stock products. Adjust them to your merchandising strategy.

## Multi-store behaviour

In a [multi-store group](/shopify-lite/multi-store), rules replicate across
stores automatically; collection rules are remapped to the equivalent
collection in each sibling store.
