# Introduction

> Depict: Search & Merchandising merchandises your existing Shopify collections — no theme rebuild, no code.

[**Depict: Search & Merchandising**](https://apps.shopify.com/depict) is Depict's native Shopify app. It works directly on the
collections you already have: you sort, pin, boost and bury products, preview
the result, and Depict writes the final order back into your Shopify
collections so it applies everywhere your theme shows them.

## What Depict: Search & Merchandising gives you

## How it works

1. **Install the app** from the
   [Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/depict). Depict ingests your
   catalog and 30 days of purchase history, and sets up its collection
   template in your theme — see [Onboarding](/shopify-lite/onboarding).
2. **Activate collections** you want Depict to manage. How many you can
   activate depends on your plan.
3. **Merchandise**: choose a sort order, pin key products, add boost/bury
   rules and content cards.
4. **Publish**: the computed order is synced back into the Shopify collection
   itself, so it works with any theme and every sales channel.

## Depict: Search & Merchandising, or the full platform?

Depict: Search & Merchandising is built for Shopify merchants who want powerful collection
merchandising without changing their storefront. The full
[Depict platform](/headless/introduction) adds search, listings,
recommendations and deeper analytics, integrated into your storefront via

## Building a headless storefront or native app?

Everything Depict: Search & Merchandising produces — the product order, content cards, image
settings and product duplicates — is readable through Shopify's own APIs;
there is no Depict API in the storefront read path. For your developers:
the [integration guide](/shopify-lite/headless/integration-guide) documents
the data model and the queries, and the
[grid rendering spec](/shopify-lite/headless/grid-rendering-spec) specifies
the grid layout algorithm for implementations that must match the web
storefront exactly.
