# Onboarding

> What happens when you install Depict Lite, and how to get to a working setup.

## Installing the app

When you install Depict Lite from the Shopify App Store:

1. Your store is registered with Depict (via Shopify OAuth) with its name,
   primary market and currency.
2. **Catalog ingestion** starts automatically, including a backfill of the
last 30 days of purchase history. The app shows an ingestion progress
indicator; most features unlock once the first full sync completes.
3. Two sensible **default rules** are created for you: boost bestsellers,
bury out-of-stock products. Adjust or remove them under
   [Boost & Bury](/shopify-lite/boost-and-bury).

Reinstalling the app is safe — Depict detects the reinstall and reactivates
your existing configuration.

## Theme setup

Depict adds its collection template and product grid snippets to your theme
automatically. In the app you can:

* see per theme whether the Depict template is installed,
* inspect exactly which files were changed during setup, and
* check the overall onboarding status (success / warning / failure /
  pending).

Deactivating a collection restores its original template — your theme is
never left in a broken state.

## Password-protected storefronts

If your storefront is behind a Shopify password (common before launch), enter
the storefront password in the app so previews and screenshots work. The app
tells you if the password is wrong.

## Plans and limits

The number of collections you can activate depends on your subscription. If
your subscription lapses, editing is frozen until it's renewed — your
configuration is kept.
