Boost & Bury rules push matching products up (boost) or down (bury) within a collection’s sort order. Rules select products by computed badge, by Shopify tag, or by membership in another collection.

Limits and behavior

  • Rules exist at two levels: global rules apply to every Depict-managed collection; collection-specific rules apply to a single collection that has opted in to its own rules, which then replace the global set for that collection.
  • Rules are ordered lists: within the boost rules and within the bury rules, a rule higher in the list moves its matching products further. Priority is set by dragging — there is no numeric strength to configure.
  • A rule can be capped to the top N matching products per collection.
  • In the collection editor’s grid, each product moved by a rule shows which rule affected it — use this to verify what a rule is doing.
  • Badge definitions are controlled by the store’s Dynamic status thresholds (in the app’s Settings); changing those thresholds re-sorts every active collection.

Badge rules use the badges Depict computes for every product. The data-driven ones are parameterized by the Dynamic status thresholds in the app’s Settings:

Creating and editing rules

Rules are edited from the collection editor’s sort drawer. The editor groups rules into areas — Global Rules, Bring products to top, Push products to bottom, and Other sorting rules — with rule sources Status (badges), Tags, and Collection. Rules can be reordered by dragging. Result: the collection grid recomputes immediately in the editor, and moved products indicate the rule that moved them. The change reaches the storefront when the collection is published.

Defaults

A new installation starts with two global rules: boost products with the Bestseller badge, and bury products with the Out of stock badge. Adjust or remove them like any other rule.

Collection-specific rules

A collection can opt in to its own rule set in the collection editor. An opted-in collection uses its collection-specific rules instead of the global rules.

Multi-store

In a multi-store group, rules replicate across stores. Collection rules are remapped to the equivalent collection in each sibling store; products and collections that can’t be matched are skipped for that store.
